The first MML takes place in Moldova!

On 5 October 2023, Ion Creanga State Pedagogical University organized the first Mutual Mobilisation Learning Workshop in Moldova, recognising the future of research and innovation in the Black Sea region relies on commitment and involvement.

The event was attended by representatives of state institutions (Ministry of Environment, Environment Agency, Moldovan Waters Agency, State Hydrometeorological Service, Basin Water Management Directorate), academia (Technical University of Moldova, Institute of Ecology and Geography, State Pedagogical University “Ion Creanga”), as well as civil society (National Environmental Centre, AO EcoContact, AO OIKUMENA, Tourism Development Association). The workshop was also attended by members of the two river basin districts – (1) Danube – Prut and Black Sea and (2) Dniester. A total of 23 participants were present.

The topics addressed during the workshop were:

Presentation of the Strategic Agenda for Research and Innovation in the Black Sea

This presentation was more than just an informative session; it was a call to action. Decision-makers were in attendance because the achievement of the ambitious targets outlined in the Strategic Agenda hinges directly upon their active participation in the decision-making process.

Presentation of the national platforms that underpin environmental decisions.

This highlighted the essential role in shaping our environmental future. These platforms serve as the bedrock upon which sound environmental policies and decisions are built. Moreover, it provided an opportunity to showcase their commitment to sustainable practices and to engage in dialogue to ensure that these platforms are aligned with our shared goals for a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Presentation of regional platforms that provide opportunities for all key stakeholders, and presentation of the functionality of the SoS developed within the DOORS Project.

These platforms are instrumental in fostering cooperation and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and resources among diverse stakeholders, including governments, businesses, civil society, and research institutions. This open forum for engagement paves the way for synergistic efforts aimed at addressing pressing regional challenges.

A special session was dedicated to SOS. This innovative tool promises to streamline data collection, analysis, and decision support processes, offering a comprehensive view of complex environmental systems. The SoS demonstrates our commitment to harnessing cutting-edge technology to better inform environmental policies and management strategies, ultimately contributing to more effective and sustainable outcomes.“

Several case studies were presented, and participants’ opinions were solicited using the brainstorming method.

This was the 3rd MML of the 6 to be organized this year.  The Mobilisation and Mutual Learning (MML) workshops give a voice to regional and local stakeholders, including regional and local authorities, business or members of civil society and an “ecosystem” of stakeholders in Responsible Research and Innovation.
