National Center for Multilingual Education

Following the approval of the Concept and National Action Plan on Multilingual Education (2025–2030), the Republic of Moldova has entered a new stage in advancing inclusive and quality education for all learners, regardless of their linguistic background.
The establishment of the National Center for Multilingual Education marks a strategic step toward the institutionalization and professionalization of multilingual education at the national level.

Mission and vision

Mission:

  • To promote multilingual education for inclusive and high-quality learning in the Republic of Moldova;
  • To strengthen national capacity for implementing multilingual education through research, teacher training, and the dissemination of good practices;
  • To empower teachers, professors, students, and experts to advocate for and implement multilingual education.

Vision:

  • A Moldova where linguistic diversity is embraced as a bridge to inclusion, quality education, and social cohesion.

Strategic directions

  • Development of methodological tools and resources for multilingual education;
  • Delivery of training programs for teachers and education professionals;
  • Strengthening of a network of national trainers and experts;
  • Conducting applied research and comparative studies;
  • Promoting good practices and fostering international cooperation.

Core pillars

  1. Training and capacity building – courses, workshops, mentoring programs for educators;
  2. Research and innovation – applied studies, policy recommendations;
  3.  Networking and dialogue – national network of experts and international cooperation;
  4. Information exchange and visibility – digital center for innovative tools and techniques and promotion of multilingual education as a driver of inclusion.

Partnership

The National Center for Multilingual Education was established through a partnership between the State Pedagogical University “Ion Creanga” in Chisinau and CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation. The initiative is part of the project “Supporting institutionalized and sustainable dialogue on Gagauzia Autonomy”, supported by Sweden. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding between CMI and the university, marking a long-term collaboration aimed at promoting multilingual education in Moldova.
